One Year Anniversary of Leah Weaving!

Posted by Christine Eckstein on

This week we want to share with you the amazing progress that our newest weaver, Leah, has made over the last year. Our weavers started to come back little by little last January, and since Leah’s previous job was closed down due to the pandemic we offered her this time to try out weaving. Since there were fewer weavers attending, we had the luxury to provide some one on one training for her. After a few months Leah was already weaving at an impressive quality for someone so new. In the last three months though, Leah has surpassed all of our expectations. Take a look through all that Leah has accomplished this past year, and what she’s working on these days!
Leah started out by working on the prototype for our new Tropical Tote coming later this spring.

After that, she moved on to working through prototypes for several scarves coming next fall and even trying out several new techniques.

With all that experience, she worked on a project from start to finish. Leah helped us to create the prototype for our new kitchen towels. Once we choose colors, tested out ideas and wove a prototype; final products were selected. Leah then wove the entire production run of both towels. While she ran into some loom issues from time to time, she handled it very well, and produced beautiful quality towels that we’ll be releasing in March.

Most recently, Leah has woven the prototype for a new set of napkins that we’re hoping to release this later this spring as well! This was by far the most impressive bit of weaving Leah has done to date. For this project she had to switch from a smaller 4 harness loom to a much larger 6 harness loom. This makes it more physically demanding to work on, and requires a greater amount of effort to weave. This project also uses significantly finer yarns, which are trickier to weave with than anything Leah had previously worked on. We were all blown away by how wonderfully Leah did on this project. When she saw something wasn’t quite right she fixed it before it became an issue, meaning that she wove the entire piece without any errors. This is a huge milestone for new weavers -identifying troubles can be complicated, and we’re all very impressed with Leah’s progress.

If you're looking for a way to support Leah in her weaving journey... stay tuned! We'll be releasing many of the products that Leah has been working on later in the spring. We have many wonderful items planned for you this year, so keep checking back. Here's to 2022 bringing lots of great things your way!
